Hungry Hearts Ministries began in 1992 with a correspondence course
entitled, "Redemption: Bible Prophecy Simplified." The primary purpose
of the course was soul-winning and discipleship. It was offered free to
the public for several years and eventually and became the basis for the
book by the same title (Our focus has not changed, and the primary
purpose of the book remains soul-winning and discipleship. That is why
the e-book is offered free to download--see sidebar).
Everything at Hungry Hearts Ministries is aimed at soul winning and discipleship.
Ministry outreaches and opportunities have expanded over the years to
include, writing books, pastoring and co-pastoring, street ministry,
outreaches to battered women, those in bondage to various addictions,
preaching, teaching, public speaking at group meetings and seminars,
online outreach through blogs and our radio station that streams,
winning souls and making disciples 24/7 365 days a year.
Founding pastor, Jocelyn Andersen, is an ordained minister, a domestic violence survivor, an author, and Bible teacher. She is outspoken for women's rights--especially, Christian women's rights--and a publisher of Christian books.
On her Mother's side, she is the Great-Granddaughter of a Methodist
circuit-preacher. On her Father's side, She is the Granddaughter of a
devout Primitive Baptist Grandmother. She has been both sprinkled and
dunked.
With only two exceptions, until she was 24 years old, she never saw the inside of any church unless it was either Baptist or Methodist. She thanks God for praying parents and grandparents, and for her early upbringing in church, but sad to say, she spent most of her young adult life ignoring God, eventually seeking freedom from Christianity through the pursuit of atheism. But the righteous are blessed and their seed [children/grandchildren/descendants], and God,a kind and merciful God did not allow her to commit herself to an eternity without him.

In 1981, she was powerfully converted to Jesus
and began reading her Bible every day, always picking up today where
she left off yesterday. That has continued up to the present day.
She began singing with a gospel group, and then joined the
praise team at her church. A few years later, she was given a second-hand guitar
and taught herself to play. She even wrote a few songs (20 years later, she
took that same guitar to the streets of Winter Haven, FL. and became a street preacher.)
She spent time growing and learning (still growing and learning),
and then, for a season, taught new converts at her church. During that time, she also
spearheaded a successful outreach for girls.
In 1988, she was led of the Lord to
take her Bible and $14 (which was all she had), and make an almost 400 mile
round-trip from Georgia to Kentucky...alone. It was an impossible
amount with which to make the trip, but she trusted God.
She knew where she was going, but not specifically why—only that
God would open a door of ministry for her after she arrived, and also that he
would provide the money she needed to return home.
When she asked the Lord why he was sending her to Kentucky, the only answer he gave was one phrase from scripture, “Lest I build on another’s foundation.”
That was it.
She went.
When it pleased God, who separated her from her mother’s womb and called her by his grace to
reveal his Son in her, that she might preach him ... immediately, she
conferred not with flesh and blood. She sought no one's permission or covering [protection] other than that of the Holy Spirit.
She simply obeyed.
She simply obeyed.
Not only did God provide
the money she needed to get to Kentucky and back home again, but the ministry door that
opened to her on that trip was powerful and enduring.
Some years passed, during which time she was active in her church. She
visited for the bus ministry, she taught Bible classes, was involved in
music ministry, etc..
Then the Spirit of the Lord began to deal with her about getting ordained.
She resisted the idea, not wanting to be known as a “Lady Preacher.” But
God had other
plans, and she received counsel from one of her spiritual elders, the
one she calls her "Beloved Teacher," to submit to having hands laid on
her and
being sent forth.
That happened in 1993.
After she had been sent forth with the laying on of hands, in the early
days
of her ministry, which she began to call “Hungry Hearts Ministries,” she
reached out to her community by holding home Bible studies
hosted by others. She continues that type of outreach to this day.
Her ministry outreaches have sometimes been unorthodox. She was once
led of the Spirit to attend a watch night service at a local Kingdom
Hall. That idea would never have occurred to her on her own. She knew it
came from God. It did not make sense to her, but she obeyed.
The result of that visit, was a relationship she developed with one of the elderly members of that congregation...which led to the writing of her first book, Redemption: Bible Prophecy Simplified.

She had been praying about something having to do with that relationship,
and the answer came in what can only be described as a supernatural,
panoramic, vision.
It happened in a moment of time (she tells about it in the book). She immediately grabbed
pen and paper and began writing down the understanding of God’s Word she had received in answer to her prayer.
That became the first draft of Redemption, which was completed it in just 24 hours.
She converted the original manuscript into a correspondence course, and
used it to reach people for Christ all over the country, and in jails
and
prisons. Today it is a published book, which is available for purchase
at Lulu.com [it is free for download at Lulu.com]. Thousands have read
it.
In 1998, Pastors Ken and Pat
Smith, at Living Word Fellowship in Spring Place, GA, asked that she
allow them to ordain her as a minister. She refused at first, as she was
already an ordained minister and not inclined to a second ordination.
But God had other plans, and led her to submit to the second
ordination.
It was through that ordination ceremony that she received credentials
which opened the door to a brief time of Jail ministry in
Polk county, FL.
When God unexpectedly called her into street ministry, in 1999, he had already fully prepared her for it (although she did not realize it at the time), and she went forth with only the Holy Spirit as her covering. He was always enough. She asked no one’s permission to obey God. And for two years, often through great adversity, she was called "Pastor" by those who attended her meetings every Sunday morning, at Lake Silver Park in Winter Haven, FL.

Although she was a woman alone, working on the streets with addicts,
mostly male and often criminals, she was never afraid, and no harm ever came
to her.
Through domestic abuse, rain, heat, cold, and tropical storm, she was
obedient to that calling. She never missed a scheduled meeting for any reason. There
were always those waiting for her to arrive, and the anointing was strong
as she fed their bodies natural food
and their souls the Word of God.
And there was always music. My, how the lord ministered through her songs and that second-hand guitar.
And there was always music. My, how the lord ministered through her songs and that second-hand guitar.
The ministry bore fruit.
She witnessed sin-hardened, homeless addicts begin to hunger for God, and for something better than the hopeless lives they were living.

During those years, two of the
largest street ministries in Winter Haven, Fl (and some others) recognized her work
and calling, and honored her with open doors to labor with them in their outreaches.
It was also during that time, that God led her to lay hands on others, and send them forth.
She asked no
one’s permission to obey him.
As years earlier, God had sent his prophet to
lay hands on her and send her forth, so he sent her to do the same for others.
In 2002, another
ministry, located in Ft Walton Beach, FL ordained her as a pastor within
their church. She served on their Board of Directors, as Associate Pastor,
Adult Sunday School Teacher, Music Minister, and Director of Christian Education
It was a blessed and fruitful time.
Later, one of the senior Pastors, there, launch a new ministry, and
asked if she would co-pastor the new church with him. She
declined, but offered to work alongside him in an independent support
capacity with teaching and music ministry.
He accepted her offer and honored her by placing the name of her ministry,
Hungry Hearts Ministries, on the sign in front of his church.
Beginning in 2005, The leading of
the Holy Spirit set her on a journey circulating through-out the Body of
Christ, without regard for denomination.
Throughout that time, sometimes she visited for a day, a month,
or longer. Sometimes she joined with the ministry for a season.
Every pastor she worked with, recognized the calling and
anointing of God on my her. Some tried to harness it for their own
selfish purposes. Some felt threatened by it (though she never coveted
another’s
position or ministry). Others have honored it, as they labored joyfully
together to win souls, make disciples, and promote the interests of
Jesus Christ.
She continues to obey
God to best of her ability and understanding. She continues to labor in the Word (both speaking and writing) and ministering in music.
